Why do DVRs need an active subscription to view content on the DVR?

Hugo Pittari: There is NO technical reason unless SKY incorporates that feature in their DVR. Sky technically can require a DVR to authenticate before allowing access to recorded programming. Similar to requiring a password to get e-mail. NO subscription NO authentication, NO service. It does NOT have to be that way and I don't know if they do that. Call Sky and ask.
